Dr Julian Dear, a senior fellow and environmentalist had a fatal heart attack after a mugging just before he was due to give a controversial speech. Morse learns the Master was getting hate mail and then there's the journalist with a secret. Morse has to put his job on the line to find out the truth.
Trevor Radford, the Managing Director of a family brewery is found dead after working late. There had been arguments in the family about a takeover from a rival brewery and his brother Stephen wanted to sell. Morse learns that Trevor's wife was having an affair with Stephen. Is the murder a crime of passion?
When two women are found bound and stabbed Morse assumes the crime was committed by the same man. An expert in crimes against women joins them and they find that the women bought cars from the same dealer. Convinced he's the culprit Morse hounds him - all he needs is evidence.
